Pune, 6th November 2026: The underground Swargate-Katraj Metro has moved a step closer on the ground. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will transfer 665 sq m of land in Dhankawadi to MahaMetro for the Padmavati Metro station.
The City Improvement Committee approved the proposal at its meeting on Tuesday, November 3, and recommended it to the General Body for final approval, as reported by Punekar News.
The land deal
- The land is valued at ₹1.15 crore.
- Twice that value, ₹2.31 crore, will be adjusted against the PMC’s financial liabilities.
- The plots are part of land reserved for a truck terminus under Survey No. 19 A/4 A and B.
- Plots 8, 9 and 10 will be handed over.
What happens to the current leaseholders
The original leaseholder of Plot 8 and the heirs of the original leaseholder of Plot 10 will get alternative plots of 225 sq m and 220 sq m in Kondhwa Budruk.
Plot 9 is different. The PMC found that its leaseholder transferred the land without permission and changed how it was used. The committee has recommended recovering the full premium, cancelling the lease and taking back possession.
Where the line stands
The Swargate-Katraj corridor is an underground extension of the PCMC-Swargate line along Satara Road, with Padmavati among its stations. It will matter to lakhs of people in Dhankawadi, Bibwewadi, Katraj and Balaji Nagar who now depend on buses on a crowded Satara Road. Our report on tunnelling plans for the Swargate-Katraj line has the timeline, and our explainer on Pune Metro Phase 2 corridors covers the other routes.
Metro work near Market Yard has already brought traffic diversions on Satara Road. Check before you drive.
