Pune’s air quality usually worsens from late October as the monsoon moisture goes, winds slow down and dust stays close to the ground. This page explains how to check the live AQI for your area, what the numbers mean, and how the city’s air has been this season.

How to check live Pune AQI

  • SAFAR-India: The System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research gives AQI and forecasts for Pune locations.
  • CPCB Sameer app: The Central Pollution Control Board’s app shows live readings from official monitoring stations in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
  • MPCB website: The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board publishes station data for the state.

Readings can differ between apps because they use different stations and averaging periods. For health decisions, use the nearest official station.

What the AQI numbers mean

  • 0 to 50, Good: Minimal impact.
  • 51 to 100, Satisfactory: Minor breathing discomfort for sensitive people.
  • 101 to 200, Moderate: Breathing discomfort for people with lung or heart conditions, children and older adults.
  • 201 to 300, Poor: Breathing discomfort for most people on long exposure.
  • 301 to 400, Very poor: Respiratory illness on prolonged exposure.
  • 401 to 500, Severe: Affects healthy people and seriously impacts those with existing illness.

October 2026 trend

Pune’s AQI stayed above 100 on all but three days in October, placing the city in the moderate category most of the time. Bhosari in Pimpri-Chinchwad recorded the worst reading at 158, and Shivajinagar touched 149, as dry weather trapped dust. Read our full Pune air quality report for October.

Diwali falls on 8 November this year. Firecrackers usually push AQI higher for a few days around the festival, especially at night.

Simple ways to protect yourself

  • Check the AQI before morning walks or runs, and move workouts indoors on moderate or worse days if you have asthma or heart issues.
  • Use a well-fitting N95 mask on high-pollution days, particularly near construction sites and busy roads.
  • Keep windows closed during peak traffic hours on bad days.
