Pune, 29th October 2026: Investors who got Jio Platforms shares in the IPO are sitting on a healthy gain. Reliance’s digital and telecom arm listed on Wednesday, October 28, at ₹1,358 on both the NSE and BSE, 21.36% above the issue price of ₹1,119.

At that price, the company was valued at about ₹12.5 lakh crore. That made Jio Platforms India’s second most valuable listed company after its own parent, Reliance Industries, and pushed Bharti Airtel to third, according to BSE data on listing day.

How the IPO went

The ₹30,213-crore issue, made up entirely of new shares, opened on October 21 and was fully booked in about 100 minutes. By the close it had been subscribed 22.19 times.

Big institutions drove the demand. The qualified institutional buyer portion was subscribed 70.55 times and non-institutional investors 14.09 times. Retail investors bid 2.72 times, the employee quota 2.93 times and the shareholder quota 7.60 times.

More than one crore applications came in, a record for a public issue. Before the IPO opened, the company had raised ₹8,109.85 crore from 212 anchor investors at the top of the price band.

What small investors got

A lot of retail investors apply through family members’ accounts to improve their chances. With retail demand at 2.72 times, a fair number of applicants did get shares, and those allottees are looking at a paper gain of about ₹239 per share at the listing price.

Part of the money raised will go towards repaying debt in the telecom business, and the rest towards general corporate purposes. Jio had 533.3 million subscribers as of June 2026.

Hold or sell?

That really depends on why you applied. If it was for a listing gain, booking some profit makes sense. If you were looking at the long term, the company’s subscriber base and its position in data services are the case for holding. Large listings can be volatile for the first few weeks, so try not to make decisions based on social media tips.
