Pune, 29th October 2026: Ather Energy has finally made money. The electric scooter maker reported a consolidated net profit of about ₹1.3 crore for July–September 2026, compared with a loss of ₹154.1 crore in the same quarter last year and a loss of ₹51.1 crore in April–June.

It’s a small number, but for one of India’s best-known EV start-ups, which had lost money every quarter since it started selling scooters, it’s a milestone.

Look closer at the numbers

Operating revenue jumped 62.9% to ₹1,464.2 crore, helped by stronger sales of its family scooter range. Total income was ₹1,527 crore and total expenses ₹1,526 crore, up 39.4%.

Here’s the catch: revenue from operations was still about ₹61.5 crore short of total expenses. What pushed the quarter into profit was ₹62.7 crore of other income, which includes returns on the cash the company holds. Ather had already turned EBITDA positive in the April–June quarter, so analysts will now be watching whether it can stay profitable at the operating level as volumes grow.

For EV buyers in Pune

Pune has a large and growing base of electric two-wheeler owners, spread across Baner, Wakad, Hadapsar and Pimpri-Chinchwad. For anyone who has worried about after-sales service or whether a young EV brand will be around in five years, a profitable Ather is reassuring. The competition is getting tougher, though; Pune’s own Bajaj Auto sold about 2 lakh electric vehicles in the same quarter.

If you’re buying this festive season, there are usually exchange offers and finance deals going around. Compare on-road prices, check what charging you’ll have at home or work, and find out where the nearest service centre is before you book.
