Harihareshwar, the temple town on the Raigad coast, is back on Pune weekend lists this Diwali season. A two-day itinerary posted by travel creator couple @desicoupleonroll has drawn about 6,300 likes since early November, and has been shared more than 8,000 times.
Here is their plan, checked against travel guides, with the practical details you need before you drive down.
The couple’s 2-day itinerary
Their reel lays out a simple plan that starts at the temple and ends on the beaches to the north:
- Day 1: Harihareshwar temple, the pradakshina walk around the hill (only at low tide), lunch, drive to Shrivardhan, Shrivardhan beach, Somjai temple, sunset and an overnight stay
- Day 2: Aravi beach and water sports, a stop at Shekhadi point, then start back to Pune or Mumbai by afternoon
The reel’s on-screen text puts Harihareshwar at about 160 km from Pune and 190 km from Mumbai. Other guides give 170 to 190 km from Pune depending on the route, so plan for a drive of about five hours.

The pradakshina: go only at low tide
The highlight of Harihareshwar is the pradakshina marg, a path that goes around the hill behind the Shiva temple and along the rocky sea shore. Wikipedia’s entry on Harihareshwar and several travel guides warn against walking it at high tide, when waves cover parts of the rocks.
Travellers who have done the walk say it takes about 30 minutes. A notice at the top of the path asks visitors to check the tide timings first. Ask at the temple or check a tide app before you start, keep children close, and wear shoes with grip on the wet rocks.
By custom, visitors go to the smaller Kalbhairav temple first and then to the main Harihareshwar temple.
How to get there from Pune
Most Pune drivers take the Tamhini Ghat road through Mulshi, then Mangaon, Mhasala and Shrivardhan. The ghat section has many curves, so avoid driving it late at night.
Without a car, the nearest railway station is Mangaon, about 60 km away, from where buses and taxis run to Harihareshwar. Shrivardhan town is about 18 km from the temple, which makes it an easy base for the second day.
When to go
The couple’s earlier Konkan reel suggests September to March as the best time for the coast. November to February brings dry weather and calmer seas, though weekends during the Diwali and Christmas holidays get crowded. Book a stay in Harihareshwar or Shrivardhan in advance on long weekends.

Frequently asked questions
How far is Harihareshwar from Pune?
About 170 to 190 km by road, roughly five hours by car via Tamhini Ghat, Mangaon and Mhasala.
Can you do the Harihareshwar pradakshina at high tide?
It is not advised. Parts of the path along the rocks are covered by the sea at high tide, so check tide timings first.
Is Harihareshwar good for a two-day trip?
Yes. Pair it with Shrivardhan, Aravi beach and Shekhadi point for a relaxed two-day plan, as the travel couple’s itinerary does.
