Pune, 6th November 2026: The new Maan-Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar Metro corridor, known as the Pink Line, recorded about 50,000 passenger journeys on its first day of service on Wednesday, November 4, even though most offices and IT parks were shut for the Diwali break.

More than 20,000 of those passengers used the interchange to switch between the Pink Line and Maha Metro’s Purple and Aqua lines, according to ridership figures reported by Punekar News.

District Court is the busiest station

District Court station, the interchange that links the Pink Line with the existing network and the route to Pune railway station, handled about 25,000 passengers on the opening day. That is half of all journeys on the corridor.

Here is the interchange breakdown released for the first day:

MovementPassengers
Travelled only on the Pink Line11,460
Pink Line to Maha Metro8,969
Maha Metro to Pink Line8,969
Maha Metro total ridership that day2.73 lakh

More trains once offices reopen

Operators expect ridership to rise sharply after the Diwali holidays, when Hinjewadi’s IT workforce returns. Trains will run every five minutes during peak hours and every eight minutes during off-peak hours.

The 23 km ride from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar is expected to take about 40 minutes. For anyone who has spent an hour or more on the Hinjewadi flyover and University Chowk at 9 am, that is the main selling point.

One card for all lines

Commuters welcomed the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) facility, which lets one card work across all Pune Metro corridors, so there is no need to buy separate tickets at the interchange.

If you are planning your first trip, our guide to Line 3 tickets and the District Court interchange explains fares and transfers, and this list covers the PMPML feeder bus routes for Hinjewadi.

Six stations are still closed

Only 17 of the line’s 23 stations are open. Balewadi High Street and Balewadi Phata are expected by the end of November, while Baner Gaon, Baner-Pashan Link Road, Bhosale Nagar (RBI) and Shivajinagar are due in phases by January 2027, according to PMRDA. The line is also run entirely by women train operators, ETV Bharat reported. Fares run from ₹12 to ₹62; see our full Line 3 stations, fare chart and timings guide.

What to watch next

The real test will come in the second week of November when office traffic returns. Last-mile connections inside the Hinjewadi phases, parking at stations and evening crowding at District Court are the issues commuters are already flagging.
