Pune is pleasant rather than cold in November. Long-term averages put Pune’s November daytime maximum at about 31°C and the night-time minimum at about 15°C, so afternoons are warm and early mornings feel cool. Real winter chill usually arrives in December and peaks in January, Pune’s coldest month, when the average minimum drops to about 11°C.

That is the climate on paper. In practice, November in Pune can feel very different from one year to the next, and 2026 is a good example.

What is the temperature in Pune in November?

Based on long-term averages for 1991 to 2020:

MonthAverage maximumAverage minimumRecord low
October31.5°C19.0°C
November30.7°C15.1°C4.6°C
December29.5°C11.8°C3.3°C
January29.8°C11.2°C1.7°C
February32.2°C12.7°C

Two things stand out. First, the drop in night temperatures between October and December is far bigger than the drop in day temperatures. Pune’s winter is about cold nights and mornings, not cold days. Second, record lows show that sharp cold spells can happen in November too, though they are rare.

Is November 2026 cold so far?

Not yet. At the start of November 2026, Shivajinagar recorded a minimum of 22.9°C, about 7 degrees above normal for the time of year, and IMD’s forecast for 1 to 6 November showed nights of 23 to 24°C. Moisture and cloud cover, with two cyclones forming in the Bay of Bengal within weeks, are likely reasons the nights have stayed unusually warm.

This is not unusual. In some years Pune’s first single-digit minimum comes in late November; in others, it does not arrive until December or even January. See our weekly Pune weather report for the latest forecast.

Which month is coldest in Pune?

January is Pune’s coldest month on average, with a mean minimum of about 11.2°C and the lowest mean daily temperature of the year. December is a close second. The lowest temperature on record for Pune, 1.7°C, was also in January.

Cold spells in Pune are usually brief. They come when skies are clear, the air is dry and northerly winds blow down from north India after a western disturbance passes. On such mornings, the minimum at Shivajinagar can fall below 10°C, and outlying areas such as Pashan, NDA and Talegaon often record even lower temperatures than the city centre.

Why is Pune colder than Mumbai at night but just as warm in the day?

Pune sits at about 560 m above sea level on the Deccan plateau, far from the moderating effect of the sea. Dry winter air loses heat quickly after sunset, so nights get much colder than in coastal Mumbai. During the day, strong sunshine warms the city up again to around 29 to 31°C. That is why a Pune winter day often starts with a sweater and ends with short sleeves.

Is November rainy in Pune?

Usually not. November averages about 28 mm of rain over roughly one or two rainy days. Rain in November normally comes from post-monsoon thunderstorms or the remnants of Bay of Bengal cyclones, such as Cyclone Murasu this year. Most of the month is dry and sunny.

When does winter start in Pune?

There is no fixed date. In a typical year:

  • Early November: Warm afternoons, nights easing towards 15 to 18°C.
  • Mid to late November: First noticeably cold mornings as skies clear and northerly winds set in.
  • December to January: The coldest stretch, with occasional single-digit mornings.
  • February: Nights stay cool but days warm up quickly.

Weather patterns such as El Nino can make cold spells less frequent in some years. Our explainer on El Nino, La Nina and Pune’s winter goes into this in detail.

What should you wear in Pune in November?

  • Light cotton clothes for the day.
  • A light jacket or sweater for early mornings, late evenings and two-wheeler rides.
  • Something warmer if you are heading to Lonavala, Mahabaleshwar or Sinhagad for sunrise, where mornings are cooler and windier.

What is the best time to visit Pune?

October to February is generally the most comfortable time to visit Pune, with dry weather, warm days and cool evenings. It also covers Diwali, the Pune Book Festival, Christmas in Camp and the start of the cultural season. The monsoon (June to September) is beautiful for trips to the ghats, while April and May are the hottest months.

Winter health tip: watch the air

Cold, still mornings trap dust and smoke close to the ground, so Pune’s air quality often worsens in winter, especially around Diwali. If you have asthma or other breathing problems, check the Pune AQI before an early-morning walk. This is general information, not medical advice.
