Yes, from 4 November 2026. Pune Metro Line 3, the Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar corridor, opens to passengers at 6 am on Wednesday, 4 November, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates it virtually on 3 November. Only 17 of its 23 stations open in the first phase. Fares range from Rs 12 to Rs 62, and trains run every 6 minutes at peak hours.

That makes it the first time Hinjewadi’s IT parks are connected to central Pune by Metro. For the lakhs of people who drive or ride the Hinjewadi-Wakad-Baner stretch every day, it is the biggest change to the commute in years.

What is the current status of Pune Metro Line 3?

The 23.2 km elevated line, sometimes called the Pink Line, has been built by PMRDA (Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority) under a public-private partnership. It is being built and operated by a concessionaire, a joint venture of Tata Realty and Siemens, under a 35-year agreement. It is described as the first metro project in India built under the PPP model of the National Metro Rail Policy, 2017.

As of 2 November 2026:

  • The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety has cleared 17 stations for passenger service.
  • The inauguration is on Tuesday, 3 November, and passenger services start on Wednesday, 4 November.
  • Six stations will open later, after pending work is finished and safety clearance is received. Reports say this could take a few months, with phased opening expected by January 2027.

Which stations are open, and which are not?

The closed stations matter most if you live in Baner or Pashan. Until they open, the nearest working stations are Mitcon Balewadi, R K Laxman Museum Balewadi and Aundh, and you will need an auto, bus or two-wheeler for the last stretch.

How much is the Pune Metro Line 3 fare?

PMRDA has announced distance-based fares in six slabs:

Distance travelledFare
Up to 2 kmRs 12
2 to 4 kmRs 25
4 to 8 kmRs 37
8 to 12 kmRs 43
12 to 18 kmRs 49
More than 18 kmRs 62

The full journey from Maan to District Court costs Rs 62. These fares were described as proposed when first reported and could be revised after public response.

Why is Line 3 costlier than the existing Pune Metro?

On Maha Metro’s existing Purple and Aqua lines, fares start at Rs 10 and go up to Rs 35. Line 3 starts at Rs 12 and goes up to Rs 62. The difference comes from the funding model. Maha Metro’s lines were built with government funding, while Line 3 was built by a private concessionaire that recovers its investment through fares. PMRDA Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhari has said the fares were fixed under the concession agreement, and future revisions are handled by a Fare Fixation Committee.

What are the Pune Metro Line 3 timings?

  • First train: 6 am.
  • Frequency: every 6 minutes in peak hours and every 12 minutes in off-peak hours.
  • Last train: not announced in the reports so far. We will update this article once the operator publishes the full timetable.

Trains are air-conditioned. Reports say about 100 women train pilots will operate the line, and the corridor is expected to carry 2 to 2.5 lakh passengers a day once fully open.

How to go to Hinjewadi Phase 3 by Metro?

Line 3’s western end is Maan, in the Hinjewadi Phase 3 and Maan area. If you work in Phase 3, you can take the Metro all the way to the Maan end stations (Maan, Maan MIDC Circle Phase II or Maan Bus Depot, depending on your office) and walk or take a short auto or company shuttle from there.

For Phase 1 and Phase 2 offices, use Hinjewadi Phase I, Shivaji Chowk Hinjewadi, Padmabhushan Chowk or the two Phase II Circle stations.

Coming from other parts of Pune

  • From PCMC, Pimpri, Kasarwadi or Bopodi (Purple Line): Ride the Purple Line to District Court and change to Line 3.
  • From Kothrud, Deccan, Ramwadi or Kalyani Nagar (Aqua Line): Ride the Aqua Line to District Court and change to Line 3.
  • From Wakad: Board at Wakad Chowk station.
  • From Aundh and the university area: Board at Aundh, Sakal Nagar or Savitribai Phule Pune University station.

District Court is the interchange between Line 3 and Maha Metro’s Lines 1 and 2. Keep in mind they are run by different operators, so check ticketing options before you travel. Reports mention a joint ticketing app, but full details on common tickets and cards have not been published yet.

Will Line 3 actually save time?

For long trips, yes. The Hinjewadi-Wakad-Baner-University stretch is one of the most congested in Pune at peak hours, and a Metro train every six minutes avoids all of it. The time saved depends on the last mile: if your home or office is within a short walk or auto ride of a working station, the gain is large. If you depend on one of the six stations that are still closed, the benefit will come later.

Local tip: For the first week, expect crowds of curious first-time riders, especially on 4 November and the following weekend. Office commuters may prefer to test the route on a weekday afternoon first.

Common mistakes to avoid

  1. Heading to Baner Gaon or Shivajinagar stations: They are not open yet. Use Mitcon Balewadi, Aundh or District Court instead.
  2. Assuming Maha Metro fares: Line 3 fares are higher. Budget Rs 62 for the full journey.
  3. Expecting late-night trains: The last-train time has not been announced. Check before planning a late return.
