Pune, 1st November 2026: Pune’s Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar Metro, Line 3, will carry its first passengers on Wednesday, 4 November. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the line virtually on Tuesday, 3 November, at an event at the Balewadi sports complex, PMRDA Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhari has said.

Only 17 of the line’s 23 stations will open in this first phase, and fares have not been announced yet.

Which stations open and which stay shut

The 17 stations cleared by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety run from Maan and Hinjawadi through Wakad Chowk, Balewadi and Aundh to the University and District Court end of the line.

The six stations that will stay closed for now, according to the details shared by PMRDA on 31 October, are:

  • Laxmi Nagar
  • Balewadi Phata
  • Baner Gaon
  • Baner-Pashan Link Road
  • Reserve Bank of India
  • Shivajinagar

That matters if you live in Baner or Pashan. Until these stations open, you will need to board at Balewadi or Aundh instead. PMRDA has not given a firm date for the remaining six; earlier reports said the Balewadi stations could follow by December.

Timings on day one

Reports of the first-day schedule differ. The Free Press Journal reported that service starts at 6 am on 4 November with the last train at 11:40 pm, while Pune Pulse quoted Dr Chaudhari as saying daily services start at 11 am that day. If you plan to ride early on Wednesday, check PMRDA’s official website and social media handles before leaving home.

Train frequency has not been announced.

Fares and tickets

Fares will be distance-based under the project’s concession agreement, and PMRDA will publish the fare chart. Tickets will be sold through WhatsApp, a mobile app, station counters and ticket vending machines. Dr Chaudhari also said a single app covering Line 3 and Maha Metro’s Purple and Aqua lines is planned.

We will update this article as soon as the fare chart is out.

What Hinjawadi commuters can expect

For IT employees who spend an hour or more on the Wakad and University Circle stretch, Line 3 offers a grade-separated ride from Maan and Hinjawadi to the University area. Every train will be run by women operators, PMRDA says.

Each station has a drop-off zone, lifts, escalators and ramps, and parking where space allows. Last-mile links are still a gap: PMRDA has approved a Rs 426 crore plan for roads and traffic management in Hinjawadi, Punekar News reported, but that work is not finished.

How the line got here

The 23.3 km elevated corridor is being built and run by Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited under a public-private partnership with PMRDA, at a cost of about Rs 8,313 crore. It has missed several deadlines, March 2025, September 2025 and March 2026, while it waited for safety approvals. The opening was in doubt again in late October when the Prime Minister’s Pune district visit was postponed, before the 3 November date was confirmed.

About 30 percent of the line’s power is expected to come from 7.6 MW of solar panels.
