Pune, 7th November 2026: Pune Municipal Corporation’s Additional Municipal Commissioner (Special) Omprakash Diwate inspected roads under Package 4 of the Pune Grand Tour 2027 works on Friday, November 6. He told departments and contractors to speed up pending work and keep to quality standards within the deadline.
The inspection was reported by Punekar News, whose post tagged the PMC and named Fatimanagar and BT Kawade Road among the stretches.
Which roads are in Package 4
PMC has split the Grand Tour road upgrade into four packages. Package 4 covers the eastern and central city, according to The Free Press Journal:
- Bhairoba Nala
- Magarpatta and Mundhwa
- North Main Road (Koregaon Park)
- Vidhan Bhavan area
- Ganeshkhind Road
- Fergusson College Road and Deccan
The other three packages cover Aundh, Baner and Pashan (Package 1); Senapati Bapat Road, Kothrud, Karve Nagar, Sinhagad Road and Khadakwasla (Package 2); and the Peth areas, Kondhwa, Bhavani Peth, Camp and Yewalewadi (Package 3).
How big the job is
For the 2027 race, PMC plans to bring 135.8 km of city roads up to international racing standard at an estimated cost of about ₹167.25 crore. Of this, 52.09 km are roads already upgraded for the first edition, and 83.66 km are new stretches.
PMC City Engineer Anirudha Pawaskar has said the work was split into four packages for better quality and timely completion.
What residents on these roads can expect
If you live or commute around Magarpatta, Mundhwa, Koregaon Park or FC Road, expect resurfacing and levelling of manhole chambers in the coming weeks, the kind of work done on the route before the first edition. Short diversions are likely while asphalting is under way.
Traffic diversions are announced by the Pune City Traffic Police before major asphalting. We will add them to our Pune traffic and metro news section as they come.
To report a pothole or unfinished patch on these roads, use the PMC complaint channels listed in our PMC Complaint Care app and helpline guide.
Why speed matters this time
The first Pune Grand Tour, India’s first UCI-sanctioned multi-stage road race, ran from January 19 to 23, 2026. Roads were relaid in a rush before it, and within a month some manhole chambers on the route had started to sink, The Bridge Chronicle reported. That drew criticism over the cost and quality of the work.
The second edition is planned for late January 2027. One report gives the dates as January 26 to 31, another as January 27 to 31. The final race calendar and stage routes had not been published when this story went out.
What is still not clear
- The completion deadline for Package 4 roads
- How many kilometres and how much money fall under Package 4 alone
- Stage routes and road closure dates for the race week
We will update this story when PMC or the district administration releases these details.
