Maharashtra now charges ₹60 for a two-wheeler PUC certificate, ₹120 for a petrol three-wheeler, ₹150 for a petrol or CNG four-wheeler and ₹180 for a diesel vehicle. The Transport Department raised the rates by about 20% in August 2026, and told PUC centres to follow the new charges.
A valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate is mandatory for petrol, diesel and CNG vehicles.
New PUC rates
| Vehicle | Old rate | New rate |
|---|---|---|
| Two-wheeler | ₹50 | ₹60 |
| Petrol three-wheeler | ₹100 | ₹120 |
| Petrol and CNG four-wheeler | ₹125 | ₹150 |
| Diesel vehicle | ₹150 | ₹180 |
When the change was reported, some Pune centres were still charging old rates because their software had not been updated. If you are overcharged, ask for the printed receipt and report it to the RTO.
How long is a PUC valid?
- A new vehicle comes with a PUC valid for one year from registration.
- After that, each certificate is valid for six months to a year, depending on the vehicle’s emission norms and test result.
- The validity date is printed on the certificate and recorded on the national database.
How to check your PUC online
- Open the Parivahan PUC page (puc.parivahan.gov.in).
- Enter your vehicle registration number and the last five characters of the chassis number.
- View or download your latest PUC certificate.
Since PUC centres upload results online, police can check your PUC status during checks and via e-challan systems.
Fine for not having a PUC
Driving without a valid PUC can attract a fine under the Motor Vehicles Act. Pune RTO and traffic police run regular PUC drives. Check pending challans with our guide to checking and paying e-challans in Pune.

Fines and validity rules come from the Motor Vehicles Act and Central Motor Vehicles Rules and can be revised. Follow your RTO’s and traffic police’s current instructions.
