Pune, 29th October 2026: A car on the footpath outside your building. A bike blocking the society gate. Someone double-parked on a busy road during peak hour. Most of us in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad see this every day, and most of us just honk and move on.
You don’t have to. Both police commissionerates now let you report wrong parking and other traffic violations from your phone, and verified complaints do lead to e-challans.
Where to report
- Pune city: the Pune Traffic Police (PTP) app, or WhatsApp 9112020112
- Pimpri-Chinchwad area (including Wakad, Hinjewadi and Chakan): PCMC Traffic Police WhatsApp chatbot 8975959555
- Accidents or emergencies: dial 112
Using the PTP app
Download the official Pune Traffic Police app, register with your mobile number and pick the type of violation, for example wrong parking. Then click a photo that shows the number plate clearly, add the location and a line about what happened, and submit. The police check every complaint before acting on it.
The app is being used more than many people realise. A report from March 2026 said it had received around 2.5 lakh complaints, of which over 1.76 lakh were verified, and fines of about ₹9.32 crore had been collected from those cases. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has asked citizens to keep using it, and the most active reporters for February were even given cash prizes.
WhatsApp option for Pune city
In February 2026, the city traffic police shared 9112020112 for complaints about triple-seat riding, wrong-side driving, riding without a helmet and vehicles without proper number plates. Send a photo or a short video along with the location.
In PCMC limits
Residents in the Pimpri-Chinchwad commissionerate area can message the chatbot on 8975959555. It takes complaints about unauthorised parking, abandoned vehicles, signal jumping, obstructions and heavy vehicles in restricted zones. Police said the chatbot received 1,365 complaints during a recent drive, and verified ones were dealt with within 24 hours.
A few things that help
Complaints without a readable number plate usually go nowhere, so get the plate in the frame. It also helps to show the context, such as the footpath, the gate or the no-parking board. Add a landmark, and report when it happens rather than days later.
Please don’t argue with drivers while taking photos, and don’t post number plates or faces on social media to shame anyone. Send it to the police and let them handle it.
Once a complaint is verified, an e-challan goes to the registered owner of the vehicle. Owners can check and pay pending challans online.
