Pune, 7th November 2026: A 20-foot miniature of the new Pune Metro Line 3, showing all 23 stations from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar, has been installed at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex metro station in Mahalunge-Balewadi. It was built by Kothrud’s Joshi’s Museum of Miniature Railways.

The model was made by the father and son team of Dr Ravi Joshi and Devavrat Joshi, according to Pune Pulse. It is meant to help commuters understand the new corridor, which opened to passengers this week.

What the Line 3 model shows

Devavrat Joshi told Pune Pulse the model sits on a platform about 20 feet long and six and a half feet wide, built at a scale of 1:500. At that scale, one centimetre on the model stands for five metres on the ground.

The details that stand out:

  • All 23 stations on the 23.3 km route, from Maan to District Court
  • The double-decker flyover on Ganeshkhind Road, where the metro runs above a road flyover
  • The river bridge at Wakad Chowk, with its pillars standing in the river
  • The car shed at Maan, where the line drops from the elevated viaduct to ground level
  • LED lights that show trains moving along the route

Ravi Joshi said the team took extra care with these structures so the model looks as close to the real line as possible. According to Pune Pulse, the job was finished in about 30 days.

Where to see it

The model is at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex station in Mahalunge, next to the Balewadi stadium complex. The reports do not say whether it sits inside or outside the ticketed area, so ask station staff if you are visiting only to see it.

The station is on the Pink Line between Wakad Chowk and Balewadi. For fares and timings, see our Pune Metro Line 3 stations, fare and timings guide.

Why a model of a metro line that already exists

Line 3 is new to most Punekars. It is built and run by a private company, Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd, under a PMRDA concession. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it on November 3, and passenger service began on November 4.

The route is long and passes through areas many city residents rarely visit, such as the Hinjewadi IT phases and Maan. A table-top model lets a first-time rider see in one glance where the line goes and where it meets the older Purple and Aqua lines at District Court.

Not the museum’s first metro model

Joshi’s Museum, set up in 1998 by the late B.S. “Bhau” Joshi, has a long record of railway replicas. In April 2025, at its 27th anniversary, it unveiled a static model of the existing Pune Metro, and Ravi Joshi said then that such models would later be placed at metro stations. Before that it built a scale model of the Vande Bharat train.

The museum in Kothrud also runs a light and sound show with working model trains, popular with school groups. If your children enjoyed the Balewadi display, the museum is a short trip away. For more family outings, see what’s on in Pune this weekend.
