Eight Pune district talukas were declared drought-hit in the state’s first 2026 list: Bhor, Velhe, Daund, Indapur, Purandar, Baramati, Shirur and Khed. Haveli, Mulshi, Maval, Junnar and Ambegaon were not on that list. On 14 October the state added 40 more talukas across Maharashtra, taking the Maharashtra total to 305.

It may seem odd that Pune’s dams are close to full while its talukas face drought. The reason is how the rain fell: heavy bursts in a few days followed by long dry spells hurt kharif crops in the eastern talukas, even though the reservoirs in the western ghats filled.

What relief Pune farmers get

District Collector Jitendra Dudi said the following measures apply in the drought-hit talukas:

  • Concessions in land revenue
  • A stay on recovery of farm loans, with banks told to restructure crop loans
  • Concessions on electricity bills for farm pumps
  • Exam fee waivers for school and college students
  • Fodder depots and camps where needed
  • Water tankers for villages short of drinking water

The state has also announced a ₹5,000 advance for farmers in drought talukas and is seeking central assistance at ₹8,500 a hectare for rain-fed crops, ₹17,000 for irrigated and ₹22,500 for perennial crops. Read the full drought relief rates.

Crop loss panchnamas

The district administration ordered crop damage assessments to be completed by 8 October. If your field was missed, approach your talathi or the taluka agriculture office with your 7/12 extract and e-Peek Pahani crop record.

Not on the list?

The drought declaration is made for whole talukas based on rainfall, crop condition and other triggers. If your village in a non-listed taluka suffered losses, the gram panchayat can request a review through the tehsildar.

The eastern talukas also got heavy rain on 1 and 2 November, with Indapur recording 131 mm and Baramati 77.2 mm. Read about the rain and what to do if it damaged your crop.

The list may change if the state adds talukas or revenue circles. Check with the Pune Collectorate or your tehsil office.
