Pune, 2nd November 2026: Unseasonal overnight rain soaked Pune city and district between Sunday night and Monday morning, with Indapur recording 131 mm in 24 hours, the highest in the district. Shivajinagar, the city’s reference station, logged 41.1 mm, which is Pune’s heaviest 24-hour rainfall in November since 2019, according to IMD figures for the period ending 8:30 am on Monday, 2 November.
The showers began around 8:30 pm on Sunday, returned with a heavier spell around midnight and carried on into Monday morning, catching office-goers and Diwali shoppers off guard. For comparison, Shivajinagar received just 1.7 mm of rain in the whole of October.
How much rain fell where
| Station | Rainfall (24 hours to 8:30 am, 2 Nov) |
|---|---|
| Indapur | 131 mm |
| Baramati | 77.2 mm |
| Ambegaon | 49.5 mm |
| Shivajinagar | 41.1 mm |
| Dhamdhere | 39.5 mm |
| Shirur | 39 mm |
| Hadapsar | 35.5 mm |
| Haveli | 35 mm |
| Magarpatta | 30.5 mm |
| Chinchwad | 19.5 mm |
| Pashan | 14.6 mm |
The eastern talukas, Indapur and Baramati, took the heaviest hit. Within the city, the eastern belt of Hadapsar and Magarpatta got more than twice as much rain as Pashan in the west.
Waterlogged roads, dead signals and a fallen tree in Khadki
Water collected on main roads and internal lanes during the Monday rush hour. Commuters reported slow traffic on stretches around Camp, Sinhagad Road, Dhayari, Kothrud, Baner, Hinjawadi and Hadapsar, and several traffic signals stopped working. Traffic police put the slowdown down to water on the roads.
Chakan saw severe waterlogging that disrupted road movement, as did parts of Baramati and Indapur. In the city, a large tree came down in the Khadki Bazaar area around midnight; nobody was hurt and fire brigade staff cleared the road. Branches fell at several other spots.
The timing hurt small traders. Rainwater entered temporary Diwali stalls around Mahatma Phule Mandai and Shaniwar Peth, damaging stock days before Laxmi Pujan.
Will it rain again in Pune this week?
IMD had forecast very light rain for Pune until 2 November and light rain on 3 November, followed by mainly clear skies from 4 to 6 November, with daytime temperatures of 31 to 32°C. On 2 November, IMD also said thunderstorms and lightning were possible in parts of Madhya Maharashtra over the following days, so a passing evening shower cannot be ruled out.
IMD Pune scientist Dr SD Sanap said Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu, which is heading for the Andhra Pradesh coast, was not hitting Maharashtra directly but its partial influence was adding moisture to the air. He also pointed to a southward shift of the subtropical jet stream, which is producing high clouds and thundershowers, the Free Press Journal reported. Rain may continue on 2 and 3 November and ease from 4 November, with most of Maharashtra expected to turn dry after 5 and 6 November. Sanap added that the showers will not be enough for rabi farmers or to lift groundwater levels.
