You can apply for a Maharashtra income certificate online on the Aaple Sarkar portal (aaplesarkar.mahaonline.gov.in) or at any Aaple Sarkar Seva Kendra / Maha e-Seva Kendra. You upload ID, address proof and income proof, pay a small service fee, and the certificate is issued by the tehsildar’s office, usually within the time limit set under the Right to Public Services Act.

Students need it for scholarships, fee concessions and EWS or non-creamy layer claims, so apply well before admission deadlines.

Who needs it

  • Students applying for MahaDBT scholarships and fee reimbursement
  • Families applying for schemes with an income limit
  • Applicants for EWS reservation and non-creamy layer certificates

Documents usually needed

  • Identity proof: Aadhaar, PAN or voter ID
  • Address proof: ration card, electricity bill or property tax receipt
  • Income proof: salary certificate or Form 16 for salaried people, income tax return, or the talathi’s income report for farmers and self-employed people
  • 7/12 and 8A extracts, for agricultural income
  • Self-declaration of income, as given in the form
  • Photograph

The exact list shown on Aaple Sarkar depends on the purpose and applicant category.

Step by step

  1. Register on aaplesarkar.mahaonline.gov.in with your mobile number, or log in.
  2. Under Revenue Department services, choose “Income Certificate”.
  3. Fill in the form and upload the documents.
  4. Pay the service fee online.
  5. Track the application with the reference number.
  6. Download the digitally signed certificate when it is approved, or collect it from the Seva Kendra.

Validity

The income certificate is usually issued for a financial year and based on the previous three years’ income where required. Many scholarship schemes need a certificate for the current year, so check the scheme’s rules.

Tip: Agricultural income often needs the talathi’s report first. Ask your talathi for it before applying, especially in admission season when queues are long.
