Pune, 1st November 2026: From today, anyone aged 60 or above pays half fare on a regular PMPML bus ticket in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and the PMRDA area. The concession was announced by PMPML on 31 October and applies on all routes.

To get it, you must show the conductor an ID that proves your age. No separate registration has been announced.

Which ID the conductor will accept

PMPML has listed three documents:

  • Aadhaar card
  • PAN card
  • PMPML senior citizen identity card

The ID has to show your full date of birth: day, month and year. Older Aadhaar cards sometimes print only the year of birth, and PMPML says those may be turned away. If yours is one of them, carry your PAN card instead, or update the date of birth through Aadhaar before you rely on it for the bus.

Ticket or daily pass: which is cheaper now

The half-fare ticket is new. The senior citizen daily pass, which costs Rs 35 against Rs 70 for the regular pass, stays as it is.

A simple rule of thumb: add up what your half-fare tickets would cost for the day. If you take only a trip or two, say a ride from Kothrud to Deccan and back, single tickets will usually work out cheaper. If you are changing buses several times, for example Hadapsar to Swargate and then on to Aundh, the Rs 35 pass may still be better value.

How this decision came about

The concession has been in the pipeline since March. The Pune Municipal Corporation’s Rs 15,669 crore budget for 2026-27, presented by Standing Committee chairman Shrinath Bhimale on 24 March, included a 50 percent PMPML fare concession for senior citizens.

PMPML’s board then approved it at its meeting on 24 August. At the same meeting the board raised accident compensation to up to Rs 1 lakh for injured passengers, from Rs 50,000, and up to Rs 3 lakh for the families of those killed, from Rs 2 lakh.

What is still not clear

PMPML has not yet said:

  • whether the discount covers AC and e-buses as well as regular buses
  • how the cost will be shared between PMC and PCMC
  • whether new PMPML senior ID cards are being issued for this scheme

We will update this article as PMPML clarifies these points. Route and fare details are on the PMPML website.

Who benefits most

PMPML runs about 1,800 buses across the region, according to the corporation. For retired residents of Sinhagad Road, Hadapsar, Nigdi or Bhosari who ride buses to hospitals, markets and temples, the saving adds up over a month, especially in areas the Metro does not reach yet.

PMPML is also adding buses and depots, as covered in our report on PMPML’s new bus depots. If you combine bus and Metro, see our Pune Metro timings and fares guide.
