Pimpri-Chinchwad, 5th November 2026: A federation of housing societies in Pimpri-Chinchwad has asked civic and planning bodies for feeder buses and pedestrian skywalks so that residents can actually reach the new Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar Metro Line 3.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Co-operative Housing Societies’ Federation, led by president Sachin Londhe, has written to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and the Pune District Collector, Punekar News reported.

“Metro connectivity should not be limited to the stations alone,” Londhe said, according to the report.

The problem: a Metro you cannot walk to

Line 3 runs along the Hinjewadi to Balewadi stretch, but the big housing clusters of Wakad, Punawale, Tathawade and Ravet sit one to three kilometres away across busy roads. Without a bus or a safe footpath, residents still end up using cars and two-wheelers for at least part of the trip.

Feeder routes the federation wants

  • Housing societies around Utsav Chowk and Dange Chowk in Wakad.
  • Kokane Chowk in Pimple Saudagar.
  • Punawale residential clusters.
  • Akshara Elitism Society and Ganga Road in Tathawade.
  • Ravet bridge (Ravet Pool) to Wakad and Balewadi Metro stations.

It has asked for buses every 10 to 15 minutes during office hours, with dedicated stops near station entrances, and for PMRDA, PCMC, Pune Metro and PMPML to survey demand together.

Skywalks on three stretches

The federation has also asked for covered pedestrian bridges of about 500 metres to 1 km where feasible.

  • Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk to Infosys, Cyberhill Clinic, Laxmi Chowk and Hinjewadi Phase 2.
  • Wakad Metro station to Wakad village and Utsav Chowk.
  • Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk to Balewadi Metro station and Balewadi village.

It wants solar roofing, LED lighting, CCTV, ramps, lifts, signboards and emergency help points on them.

What PMPML has already started

PMPML has launched 11 feeder routes for Line 3. Our earlier report on PMPML feeder bus routes for Metro Line 3 lists them. The federation’s demand is for more routes reaching inside the residential belts of Wakad, Punawale and Ravet.

What happens next

The federation has asked for a joint meeting of all agencies within 15 days, followed by route surveys, pilot feeder services and a detailed project report for the skywalks. No agency has responded publicly yet.
