Pune, 5th November 2026: Pune Police have ordered Plunge, a pub in Koregaon Park, to stay closed until further orders after an inquiry found it was serving customers after 2 am. Pubs, bars and restaurants in the city must shut by 1.30 am.
The action was taken on the instructions of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Punekar News reported on 4 November.
How the pub was caught
According to the report, police marshals visited the pub at 1.30 am. The management told them it had shut, and the marshals left. The pub then reopened shortly afterwards and kept running past 2 am.
Police are now also looking into how it resumed business after the marshals’ visit. The report does not give the date of the violation.
What is the pub closing time in Pune?
Pubs, bars and restaurants serving liquor in Pune city must close by 1.30 am. Police marshals and local police station teams check popular nightlife areas around closing time.
Koregaon Park, especially North Main Road and Lane 5 to Lane 7, along with Kalyani Nagar, Viman Nagar, Baner and Balewadi High Street, have the largest number of late-night venues. Residents in these areas have long complained about noise, traffic and parking on the road after closing time.
Why Koregaon Park is under watch
Koregaon Park changed from a quiet garden suburb of bungalows into Pune’s busiest nightlife district over the last two decades. Many pubs now sit on lanes that still have homes, old trees and narrow roads with little parking.
Late closing affects neighbours directly: cabs and two-wheelers queue on North Main Road, music carries over compound walls, and crowds spill onto the road after closing. That is why residents’ groups in the area press for strict enforcement of closing time.
What happens to other Koregaon Park pubs
No other venue has been named. The report says pub and bar operators in Koregaon Park are on alert and police are likely to keep checking them.
A “till further orders” closure means the pub cannot reopen until the police withdraw the order. Venues facing such action usually have to explain their lapse and give an undertaking before they are allowed to reopen.
If you live near a late-night venue
