Nashik, 30th October 2026: The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027 will formally begin on Saturday, October 31, with the traditional flag hoisting (dhwajarohan) at Ramkund in Panchavati at 12:02 pm. Religious ceremonies will also be held at Kushavarta Tirtha in Trimbakeshwar.

Sadhus and mahants from the akhadas, religious leaders, public representatives and senior officials are expected at the ceremony. Reports say President Droupadi Murmu has been invited, but her attendance had not been officially confirmed at the time of writing.

How Nashik is preparing

The Godavari ghats around Ramkund are being cleaned up, temples nearby are being painted and access roads are being improved. Decorative lighting is planned along the riverfront, and a Godavari Maha Aarti is planned for the evening. A 3D projection show has been talked about, though its details have not been confirmed.

Work on Ramkal Path, Kushavarta Tirtha and pilgrim facilities in Trimbakeshwar is being reviewed so that key projects can be finished before the formal launch. Expect police arrangements for traffic and parking in Panchavati on Saturday.

Main bathing dates in 2027

The state government released the Simhastha schedule earlier in the presence of seers and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The main dates are:

  • First Amrit Snan: Monday, August 2, 2027 (Ashadh Somvati Amavasya)
  • Second Amrit Snan: Tuesday, August 31, 2027 (Shravan Amavasya), Nashik
  • Third Amrit Snan: Saturday, September 11, 2027 (Bhadrapada Shuddha Ekadashi), Nashik
  • Trimbakeshwar: September 12, 2027

Every Ekadashi, Purnima and Amavasya in the Simhastha period is also treated as a day for holy dips and darshan.

Going from Pune

Nashik is about 210 km from Pune, roughly four and a half to five hours by road via the Pune-Nashik highway through Chakan, Rajgurunagar, Narayangaon and Sangamner. MSRTC runs frequent buses from Shivajinagar. On Saturday, it is better to reach early and park well away from Ramkund, since the ghat area has narrow lanes.

If you are planning a trip next year during the Amrit Snan dates, book stays well in advance. Hotels in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar fill up months ahead during Simhastha. For more weekend trips, see our travel section and Maharashtra news.

We will update this article if the programme or the President’s visit is confirmed or changed.
