Nashik, 3rd November 2026: Platform tickets will not be sold at Nashik Road railway station from 1 to 15 November, the Bhusawal division of Central Railway has said, to control crowds during the Diwali and Chhath Puja travel rush.
Relatives and friends who come to drop off or receive passengers will not be able to enter the platforms during this period. Senior citizens and people who need access for medical reasons are exempt, according to the Free Press Journal.
Why the restriction
Nashik Road is a busy halt on the Mumbai-Howrah and Mumbai-Delhi routes, and many long-distance trains to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar pass through it during the festive season. Railway officials said visitors accompanying passengers add to congestion on platforms, making boarding and alighting difficult. The administration has asked people dropping off or receiving passengers to wait outside the station.
Tips if you are travelling
- Reach the station early; crowd control queues can take time on peak days.
- Say goodbye outside the station; only ticketed passengers, senior citizens and medical cases will be allowed on platforms.
- Check your train’s running status on NTES or by calling 139 before leaving home.
- Senior citizens who need help can ask for porter or wheelchair assistance at the enquiry counter.
Railways often place similar curbs at major stations during festival rushes, so check with your station if you are travelling from Pune, Mumbai or elsewhere this week. Travelling from Pune? See the Diwali special trains from Pune and the 1,200 extra ST buses.
