Pune, 3rd November 2026: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has directed its Pune officials not to restore power to any disconnected consumer until they pay the full outstanding amount along with the latest electricity bill.

The order came from Dinesh Agarwal, MSEDCL Executive Director (Power Purchase), during surprise inspections at the Vishrantwadi and Wadia sub-divisions on 31 October. The checks looked at whether defaulters had been reconnected despite unpaid bills.

What the inspections found

In the Wadia sub-division, two consumers, a hospitality business and an individual, together owed ₹13.13 lakh. The business had been paying its dues in instalments, which left arrears pending.

Agarwal also told officials to:

  • speed up recovery of arrears and current bills;
  • visit defaulters in the field and follow up directly, instead of monitoring from the office;
  • disconnect supply on time under the rules when bills go unpaid, so dues do not pile up and get adjusted against security deposits.

In-charge Chief Engineer Dnyandev Padalkar and other officials were present.

What it means for consumers

If your supply is cut for non-payment, partial or instalment payments may no longer be enough to get it back. You will need to clear the entire arrears and the current bill before MSEDCL restores power, and reconnection charges may apply.

Avoid a disconnection: Pay by the due date through the MSEDCL (Mahavitaran) website or app, UPI or your bank. If you think your bill is wrong, raise a complaint with your sub-division office before the due date rather than leaving it unpaid.
