Pune, 3rd November 2026: Rainwater leaked into Maan Metro station on the Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar Line 3 on Sunday evening, two days before the line’s inauguration, after a drainage pipe on the station’s entry structure got blocked, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) said. The blockage has been cleared and there is no structural defect, according to PMRDA.
Videos shared on social media on Sunday, 1 November, showed water dripping from the ceiling into passenger areas near the ticketing zone and walkway, with staff using buckets and floor wipers to clear it. The leak began soon after a spell of thunderstorms and rain.
What PMRDA says caused the leak
PMRDA said the terrace slab of the station’s entry structure is open to the sky. A temporary blockage in its rainwater drainage pipe stopped the runoff, so water collected on the slab, overflowed and seeped through the gap between the main station box and the entry structure, showing up at the mezzanine level.
“The temporary blockage in the drainage pipe has been removed, and rainwater is now draining normally,” PMRDA Chief Engineer Rinaj Pathan said, according to Punekar News. PMRDA maintained there was no structural defect in the station box or the entry structure.
Commuters want a full inspection
The episode drew questions from Hinjewadi residents and IT employees who have waited years for the line. Some asked whether construction quality had been checked properly, and others called for inspections of the drainage, electrical systems, escalators and lifts before passengers start using the stations.
Line 3 is being built by PMRDA through a public-private partnership with Tata Group and Siemens. Pune recorded its heaviest November rainfall since 2019 over the same weekend, which tested the new stations early.
Opening plans unchanged
The leak has not changed the schedule. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the line virtually on Tuesday, 3 November, and passenger services begin on Wednesday, 4 November, at 17 of the corridor’s 23 stations.
