You can now check your PF balance on WhatsApp by sending “Hi” to EPFO’s official number, +91 8796441800, from the mobile number linked to your UAN. The chatbot verifies you, then lets you see your EPF balance, your last five transactions and download your passbook. The service was launched by Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on 1 November 2026, EPFO’s 74th Foundation Day.
It is free, and you do not need to log in to the member portal or remember a password. It does not handle withdrawals or claims yet.
Steps to check PF balance on WhatsApp
- Save +91 8796441800 in your phone’s contacts, for example as “EPFO”. You can also scan the QR code EPFO shared on its official social media accounts.
- Open WhatsApp on the phone whose number is registered with your UAN (Universal Account Number).
- Send “Hi” to the saved number.
- Follow the prompts to verify yourself with the registered mobile number.
- Pick the service you want from the menu: PF balance, last five transactions or passbook download. A language option is also available.
If the bot does not recognise you, the most likely reason is that you are messaging from a number that is not linked to your UAN. You can update your mobile number on the EPFO member portal after logging in with your UAN.

Other ways to check PF balance without logging in
WhatsApp is the newest option, but EPFO’s older free services still work.
- Missed call: give a missed call to 9966044425 from your UAN-registered mobile. You get an SMS with your balance and last contribution. Your UAN should be linked to Aadhaar, PAN or bank account for this to work.
- SMS: send “EPFOHO UAN ENG” to 7738299899 from your registered mobile. Replace ENG with the first three letters of your language, for example MAR for Marathi or HIN for Hindi.
- UMANG app: search for EPFO in the UMANG app, choose “View Passbook” and log in with your UAN and an OTP.
- Member passbook site: log in at the EPFO passbook portal with your UAN and password to view and download the full passbook.
Why your balance may look lower than expected
The WhatsApp balance is the same figure EPFO shows in your passbook, so it can lag behind your payslip. Common reasons include your employer depositing the month’s contribution late, interest for the year not yet credited, or an old PF account from a previous job that has not been transferred to your current UAN.
If you are not sure how much should be going in each month, our explainer on how much PF is deducted from a ₹30,000 salary walks through the 12% calculation. Planning to take money out? Read whether you can withdraw 100% of your PF under the current rules.
This guide is for general information. EPFO may add or change WhatsApp features; the EPFO website and the member portal remain the official record of your account.
