Pune, 31st October 2026: Pune’s automotive belt has six new electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing facilities. EKA Mobility and the Pinnacle Group opened the plants at an event in Pune on Thursday, 29 October, attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, H D Kumaraswamy and Murlidhar Mohol.
The event also marked a joint venture between the Netherlands-based VDL Group and Pinnacle Industries, which speakers described as a milestone for the city’s industry.
50,000 electric buses and a highway charging network
Speaking at the event, Fadnavis said Maharashtra is set to become one of India’s leading EV manufacturing hubs. He said the state will need about 50,000 electric buses over the next three years, and asked manufacturers to expand their capacity to meet that demand. He also announced that the state will build an EV charging network along highways together with automakers.
Gadkari said India should aim to lead the world in EV manufacturing, especially electric buses and trucks, and also push biofuels, ethanol and hydrogen. Heavy Industries Minister Kumaraswamy said India should lead, not just take part in, the global shift in mobility, with investment in batteries, power electronics and hydrogen.
What it means for Pune
Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar said the five manufacturing projects in Pune are creating thousands of jobs, though an exact figure was not shared. She also said the company’s electric buses should soon run in Pune and Mumbai. The investment amount has not been made public.
The organisers highlighted that women make up half the workforce at one Pinnacle facility, and that every employee at Pinnacle is a shareholder in the company.

The Chakan, Talegaon and Pimpri-Chinchwad belt is already home to big names in two-wheelers and cars, and the new plants add to that cluster. Other EV hubs in Maharashtra
Speakers also named Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nagpur as emerging EV centres in the state. Pune, though, remains the biggest base, with its supplier network, engineering colleges and testing facilities.
We will update this article when the companies share investment and job figures.
