Pune, 29th October 2026: The National Testing Agency will hold UGC NET December 2026 as a computer-based test on December 14 to 18 and December 21, as per the revised schedule. If you’ve already applied and spotted a mistake in your form, you can fix it between November 2 and 4.
For lakhs of postgraduates, including many from SPPU and colleges across Pune, this is the exam that decides eligibility for Assistant Professor posts, Junior Research Fellowship and PhD admissions. It’s been one of the most searched education topics in Maharashtra this week.
Key dates
- Applications: October 8 to 28, 2026
- Correction window: November 2 to 4
- Exam: December 14 to 18 and December 21
- Official site: ugcnet.nta.ac.in
Fees
General candidates pay ₹1,150, General-EWS and OBC-NCL candidates pay ₹600, and SC, ST, PwD and third-gender candidates pay ₹325.
The paper
It’s a single three-hour sitting with two papers. Paper 1 has 50 questions on teaching and research aptitude and is common to everyone. Paper 2 has 100 questions on the subject you’ve chosen, out of more than 80 options.
Age limit for JRF
The upper age limit for JRF is 30 years. OBC (NCL), SC, ST, PwD, third-gender and women candidates get five years’ relaxation, and LL.M. holders get three. There is no upper age limit for Assistant Professor eligibility or PhD admission.
What to do now
Use the correction window to recheck your category, subject and exam city; those are the mistakes that cause the most trouble later. NTA usually puts out the city intimation slip about ten days before the exam, and the admit card after that.
If you’re preparing, don’t leave Paper 1 for the last week. It’s common to all subjects and can move your total quite a bit. And go only by ugcnet.nta.ac.in and official NTA notices; there’s a lot of misinformation floating around in Telegram groups.
