Pune, 2nd November 2026: Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief and Rajya Sabha MP Sharad Pawar, 85, was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune on Monday, 2 November, after complaints of coughing and pleuritic chest pain, a sharp pain linked to the lining of the lungs.

In a statement, Dr Purvez K Grant, chief cardiologist and chairman and managing trustee of Ruby Hall Clinic, said Pawar had been admitted for a general health check-up and observation. “His condition is expected to settle down, and he will remain under observation as a precautionary measure,” the hospital said, according to the Free Press Journal. The hospital has not said how long he will stay.

Supriya Sule: tests under way, parameters stable

His daughter, Baramati MP Supriya Sule, said her father was taken to hospital after a bout of coughing, that he was undergoing medical tests and that his health parameters were stable, in a post on X.

The admission came a day after Pawar toured drought-hit parts of Solapur, Dharashiv and Beed districts on 1 November. During the tour he announced ₹50 lakh for water conservation work in Tulshi village in Madha taluka. There was no official indication that the tour was linked to his health.

Third hospital stay this year

This is Pawar’s third reported admission to Ruby Hall Clinic in 2026. In February he was brought from Baramati with a persistent cough, chest congestion and breathing discomfort and was discharged on 14 February. He was admitted again from 22 to 25 February with mild dehydration and treated with supportive care.

Pawar, a four-time Chief Minister of Maharashtra and former Union Agriculture and Defence Minister, remains one of the state’s most senior political figures.
