Pune, 1st November 2026: Pune now has a direct Vande Bharat Sleeper to Bengaluru. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off the Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper Express from Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) in Bengaluru on Sunday, 1 November. The inaugural run was due to reach Mumbai CSMT at 6:15 am on Monday. Pune and Solapur are among its eight stops, which makes this the first sleeper Vande Bharat that Pune passengers can use.

According to South Western Railway, regular services begin on 2 November from the Mumbai end and on 3 November from Bengaluru. Reports have described the start dates slightly differently, so check the date on IRCTC before booking.

Route, stops and running days

The 16-coach train runs via the Solapur route, not the older Miraj-Hubballi line. Its stops are Anantapur, Guntakal, Raichur, Yadgir, Kalaburagi, Solapur, Pune and Kalyan.

  • 27652 Bengaluru (SMVT) to Mumbai CSMT: departs 7:45 pm, arrives 11:55 am the next day. Runs six days a week, not on Mondays.
  • 27651 Mumbai CSMT to Bengaluru (SMVT): departs 8:10 pm, arrives 12 noon the next day. Runs six days a week, not on Tuesdays.

Expected timings at Pune

The full station-wise timetable has not been published by the railways in the reports we have seen. Timetables shared by rail enthusiasts and travel portals show the Mumbai-bound train reaching Pune at about 8 am, and the Bengaluru-bound train at about 11:40 pm, with a halt of a few minutes. Treat these as indicative until the official schedule appears on IRCTC and the National Train Enquiry System.

If those timings hold, the train suits Punekars well in one direction and less so in the other. Leaving Pune close to midnight for Bengaluru means a late drive to the station, though you reach Bengaluru by noon. Coming back, you leave Bengaluru after office hours and are in Pune in time for a late breakfast.

Fares

As reported at the launch, the end-to-end fares are:

  • Third AC (3A): Rs 2,810
  • Second AC (2A): Rs 3,630
  • First AC (1A): Rs 4,450

Pune-Bengaluru fares will be lower since the distance is shorter. Vande Bharat trains cost more than regular mail and express trains. Bookings opened on 31 October, and waiting lists appeared quickly for the first week of November, around Diwali.

How it compares with the Udyan Express

For years, the Udyan Express has been the main overnight train between Mumbai, Pune and Bengaluru, taking roughly 22 hours end to end. The Vande Bharat Sleeper does the full trip in about 16 hours. Reports have suggested Pune to Bengaluru could take around 13 hours. You pay noticeably more for the speed and for the newer coaches, which have automatic doors, better berths and enclosed gangways.

For a family of four travelling in 3AC, the difference over the Udyan Express adds up. Bus travel, which many Pune residents use for Bengaluru, takes 14 to 16 hours depending on traffic, and private bus fares jump during festivals. Pune RTO has warned operators against overcharging this Diwali. Read our report on private bus fare rules and the complaint number.
