Pune, 31st October 2026: Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has suspended eight police personnel over two days this week, in a crackdown on alleged bribery, careless investigation and misconduct within the city force.
Marathi dailies Pudhari and Navarashtra reported the suspensions on Thursday and Friday. The action covers officers from the rank of senior inspector down to constable, posted at Market Yard, Phursungi, Kalepadal, Bundgarden and Laxmi Nagar police stations and at police headquarters.
Market Yard senior inspector suspended over Rs 30 lakh case
The most senior officer to face action is Vishwajit Jagtap, Senior Police Inspector at Market Yard police station. His suspension is linked to a case from 7 October, when five people allegedly sprayed something in the faces of a man and his companion and snatched a bag containing Rs 30 lakh.
According to the complainant, the police station delayed registering the case, first noted it on paper and then recorded it only as a missing-property complaint instead of a robbery. The commissioner cited indiscipline, irresponsibility and damage to the force’s reputation, Pudhari reported.
Two more suspended on the first day
Woman Police Sub-Inspector Komal Jadhav of Phursungi police station was suspended for alleged lapses in a serious case she was investigating. When the accused sought anticipatory bail in the High Court, she allegedly filed a vague report and did not appear for the hearing. Additional Commissioner Rajesh Banasode issued the order.
Woman constable Ashwini Kekan of Kalepadal police station was suspended after a video showed her allegedly driving on the wrong side after drinking, hitting a footpath and abusing motorists. She was on leave at the time. Deputy Commissioner Jeevan Benival issued that order.
Bribery allegations at Bundgarden and on the highway
On the second day, Navarashtra reported four more suspensions. At Bundgarden police station, Police Sub-Inspector Amol Dhumal and havaldar Tushar Alhat were suspended after a complaint that they demanded Rs 2 lakh from a hotel manager to reduce the number of accused in a case registered against a hotel.
Constable Baburao Dhole, posted at headquarters, was suspended for allegedly demanding Rs 5,000 from a container driver on the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway while in uniform. He has been booked at Warje Malwadi police station and arrested, the report said. The order was issued by DCP (Headquarters) P.R. Patil.
Havaldar Rahul Chaudhari of Laxmi Nagar police station was suspended after being named as an accused in a case of assault on a minor in the Manjari area. DCP Zone 4 Chilumula Rajinikanth issued that order.
Reports have not said how many of the remaining cases have led to criminal charges. Suspension is an interim step while departmental inquiries are carried out.
