Pune, 4th November 2026: Pune Metro Line 3, the Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar line, uses a separate ticket system from Maha Metro’s Line 1 and Line 2. A trip from Hinjewadi to Swargate therefore needs two QR tickets for now, scanned at separate gates at District Court.
The short answer for most commuters: buy a Line 3 ticket on WhatsApp or at the counter, and a separate Maha Metro ticket for the onward ride. Or use an NCMC (One Pune) card, which you can tap at both systems.
Why does one journey need two QR codes?
Line 3 was built by PMRDA under a public-private partnership and is run by a private company, Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited. Line 1 (PCMC to Swargate) and Line 2 (Vanaz to Ramwadi) are run by Maha Metro.
Maha Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar said the two systems currently issue separate QR codes, and that a fully integrated single ticket is being developed. Punekar News reported that this is expected to take three to four more months.
How do I book a Line 3 ticket on WhatsApp?
- Send “Hi” to +91 94201 01990 on WhatsApp.
- Tap “Book Now”, choose Line 3, then your boarding and destination stations.
- Pick Single or Group Journey and the number of passengers.
- Tap “Proceed” and “Pay Online” by UPI or card. You must pay within five minutes.
- The QR ticket arrives in the chat. Show it at the entry gate and again at the exit gate, so keep it on your phone.
You can also book in the Pune Metro mobile app on Android or iOS, buy at the station counter, or use a ticket vending machine.
What do Line 3 fares cost?
Line 3 fares depend on distance:
- Up to 2 km: Rs 12
- 2 to 4 km: Rs 25
- 4 to 8 km: Rs 37
- 8 to 12 km: Rs 43
- 12 to 18 km: Rs 49
- More than 18 km: Rs 62 (Maan to District Court)
A trial WhatsApp booking from District Court to Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Mahalunge cost Rs 49, according to Punekar News. Maha Metro fares on Line 1 and Line 2 range from Rs 10 to Rs 35, as listed in our Pune Metro timings and fares guide.
Line 3 fares are higher than Maha Metro’s. Hardikar told reporters this was because agreements were signed at different times and the line is privately developed and operated, Free Press Journal reported.
How do I change lines at District Court?
District Court (Civil Court) is the only interchange between Line 3 and the Maha Metro network. A 150-metre footbridge links the Line 3 station with the existing interchange station, according to Free Press Journal.
Here is how a trip from Wakad Chowk to Swargate works today:
- Book a Line 3 QR ticket from Wakad Chowk to District Court.
- Scan it at the Line 3 exit at District Court and walk across the footbridge.
- Scan a separate Maha Metro ticket for District Court to Swargate on Line 1.
Book the second ticket before you reach District Court, so you are not stuck in a queue at peak hour. With an NCMC card you skip both steps: tap in and out at each system’s gates.
What are the Line 3 timings?
The first trains leave Maan and District Court at 6 am. Free Press Journal reported that the last train leaves Maan at 10:30 pm and District Court at 11:40 pm, with trains every 5.5 minutes in peak hours (7.30 to 9.30 am and 5 to 8 pm) and every 10 minutes at other times. A full Maan to District Court ride takes about 40 to 45 minutes.
Seven stations, including Maan, Padmabhushan Chowk, Agriculture College and District Court, have only one staircase for now, so allow extra time at rush hour.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Buying a Maha Metro ticket and expecting it to open Line 3 gates. It will not, for now.
- Deleting the WhatsApp QR after entry. You need it to exit.
- Planning a trip to a station that is not open yet. Only 17 of 23 stations are working; see our Line 3 station guide.
For the last stretch to your office or home, PMPML has started 11 new feeder bus routes for Line 3. We will update this explainer when the single integrated ticket goes live.
