Last updated: 1 November 2026. We update this page whenever PMC announces a change.

Pune is under a weekly water cut. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) announced a citywide water cut every Thursday, starting 15 October 2026, to make the city’s water stock last till the end of August 2027.

Latest (1 November): No extra cut has been announced before Diwali. After the canal committee meeting, PMC officials have said a decision on further cuts, possibly alternate-day supply, will be taken after Diwali. Details in our water cut update.

Is there a water cut in Pune today?

  • Thursday: Yes, the weekly water cut applies across PMC limits, including areas such as Kothrud, Karve Nagar, Warje, Sinhagad Road, Hadapsar, Kharadi, Viman Nagar, Aundh, Baner and the old city peths.
  • Other days: Regular supply as per your area’s timetable, unless PMC announces a special shutdown for repair work.

The next scheduled Thursday cuts are on 5 November, 12 November, 19 November and 26 November 2026. Some areas may see low pressure or delayed supply the morning after a cut while lines refill.

Why Pune has a water cut

Storage in the Khadakwasla dam chain was 26.22 TMC on 12 October, lower than a typical year at that time. PMC also reviewed stock in Bhama Askhed and Pavana dams. A state Water Resources Department order dated 5 October asked local bodies to cut consumption by at least 10 percent from 16 October.

After the canal committee meeting, the state said Pune will get 13 TMC this year, with stock planned till August 2027. Read our report on the Pune water supply decision. A strong El Nino this year adds uncertainty for the 2027 monsoon, as explained in our El Nino and La Nina explainer.

Water-saving rules PMC has announced

  • Do not use drinking water for construction. Use STP-treated, borewell or well water.
  • Vehicle washing with PMC or borewell water is not allowed, and vehicle-washing centres must close.
  • Do not use drinking water for swimming pools, gardens, or washing courtyards and footpaths.
  • Fix leaking taps, flush tanks and pipelines quickly, and stop overhead tanks from overflowing.
  • Reuse treated greywater for gardening and toilet flushing. Housing societies should keep their STPs running.

PMC has said it will act against unauthorised connections, and criminal cases may be filed.
