Pune: In a major success, Pune Police seize country-made pistols and arrest seven suspects in a citywide crackdown on the illegal arms trade. Officers say this wasn’t a random raid but part of a planned drive to cut off the supply of weapons before they fuel crimes like robberies, extortion, and gang violence.

How the Crackdown Unfolded
This wasn’t about chasing petty criminals—it was a citywide strategy. Police teams spread across different units worked in sync, going after those suspected of bringing in and circulating country-made weapons. The idea was simple: cut the supply before these guns could find their way into robberies, gang wars, or extortion rackets.
The Key Arrests
Anti-Extortion Cell in Action: Acting on a specific tip-off, the Anti-Extortion Cell picked up one suspect in Hadapsar. Two pistols and two live cartridges were found on him.
Crime Branch Unit 1 Move: Meanwhile, Unit 1 officers arrested two more suspects in Kondhwa, recovering a pistol from them. But the bigger breakthrough came after their interrogation—police tracked down four more men, from whom they seized another six pistols and 10 live cartridges.
By the end of the drive, the tally stood at seven arrests and nine pistols off the streets.
Why It Matters for Pune
Country-made pistols may look crude, but they’re deadly and cheap to get hold of—making them a favourite tool for criminals. Police say every single firearm taken off the streets reduces the chance of violent incidents, whether it’s gang fights, robberies, or worse. This drive, in their view, is about prevention as much as punishment.
What Happens Next
All seven suspects have been booked under the Arms Act, and investigations are on to find out who supplied these weapons and whether a larger network is hiding behind these arrests. For now, police believe this operation has struck a solid blow against Pune’s illegal arms circulation.
