Inside Pune’s dating app scam: How Telegram “playboy service” cons lure users with false promises.
Pune: If you’ve spent even a few days on dating apps, you’ve probably seen them — profiles that look decent enough, but within two messages, they drop their Telegram ID and vanish. Red flag, right?
Most of us roll our eyes and swipe on. But this time, I decided to do something different. Out of sheer curiosity (and maybe a little mischief), I thought: What if I actually played along?
So, here’s how one of the most common scams on Pune’s dating apps works — step by step.

The First Hook: “Playboy Service” Offer
I messaged a profile that looked suspicious and, sure enough, a day later came the bait:
“Are you interested in playboy service?”
Now, obviously, I knew it was a scam. But for the sake of this investigation, I said yes. That’s when they hit me with their official-sounding Terms and Conditions (yes, an actual list):
- Registration requires paying confirmation charges of ₹325.
- After registration, you’ll receive photos & addresses of clients.
- Each “entertainment session” pays you ₹32,000, from which you must give 50% commission.
- ₹8,000 to be paid before meeting the client.
- No photos or addresses without confirmation charges.
- Only “genuine customers” should proceed.
At first glance, it almost looks like a proper gig contract. But dig deeper and the scammy cracks start to show.
Why the Pune Dating App Scam Works
- The ₹32,000 bait: A ridiculous amount for vague “entertainment.” It preys on greed and financial desperation.
- The small ₹325 entry fee: Classic scam technique. Small enough to not feel risky, but once you’ve paid, you’re more likely to pay again.
- The complex commission structure: Makes it seem legitimate, like there’s an actual system in place.
- The “traditional family client” excuse: This is how they stop you from asking for proof. Secrecy = safety, right? Wrong.
The Escalation: Using Real Hotels & Photos
So, yes — I paid the ₹325 (consider it my “investigative journalism fee”).
They then sent me a photo of a decent-looking woman in her 30s and the address of a real hotel in Pune. This was smart — using a legit, public place makes the whole thing feel much more believable.
I went to the hotel at the mentioned time and called them. That’s when the final trap sprung.
The Big Ask: ₹8,000 Before Meeting the Client
The scammer told me:
“Madam is waiting inside, but you must pay ₹8,000 now before meeting her.”
This was the moment I knew was coming 🤣. I argued, asked why I should pay before even meeting anyone, but he just kept repeating the same script. Eventually, when he realized I wouldn’t budge, he got annoyed and cut the call.
End of scam.
How to Spot This Scam (Red Flags You Can’t Miss)
- Moving off the app immediately → They’ll push for Telegram/WhatsApp. Big red flag.
- Any upfront payment → Registration fees, confirmation charges = scam. Always.
- Too-good-to-be-true money offers → ₹32,000 for doing almost nothing? Nope.
- Urgency & pressure tactics → “Only genuine customers, don’t waste time.” They want you to act without thinking.
- No clear details, just rules → They give terms but never solid proof of anything.
Final Thoughts: Stay Smart, Stay Safe
For me, losing ₹325 was worth it to expose the mechanics of this scam. But for many, these traps go further — people end up paying thousands before realizing the truth.
The golden rule? No legitimate job or service will ever ask you to pay first.
So, the next time you’re swiping in Pune and someone sends you a Telegram ID with promises of “services” and “big money” — swipe left, block, and move on.
