Pune: The Pune police crime branch has cracked the Pune Baner departmental store theft, arresting two men accused of breaking into a store and stealing cash and an LED television. Investigators said they managed to crack the case by carefully tracing a stolen van captured on CCTV footage and acting on a timely tip-off from an informant.

The Crime: An Overnight Heist
The break-in happened on the night of August 11. Police said the suspects sneaked into a departmental store in Baner and made away with ₹15,000 in cash and an LED television. A complaint was soon registered at the Chatushrungi police station, kicking off the investigation.
The Investigation: Following the Trail
Officers began by going through the CCTV footage from the store. What caught their eye was a van the thieves used to load the stolen goods. When they dug deeper, the team discovered that the same van had been reported stolen earlier. That gave them their first solid lead.
Soon after, a police informant tipped them off about the suspects’ movements. With both the van clue and the informant’s input, the crime branch team was able to zero in on the accused.
The Arrest and Recovery
Police then laid a trap and arrested the two men — identified as Ajay Ingale and Sunny Devkar — from different spots in the city. During the operation, they also recovered the stolen van and the LED television, linking the duo directly to the Baner store theft.
Legal Action
The two have now been booked under the case registered at the Chatushrungi police station. Police stressed that the men are still suspects at this stage and further investigation is in progress.
