Mohammadwadi after dark – a neighborhood in distress. Locals speak out against rising hooliganism. Full story on puneripages.in.

“We feel like hostages in our own homes. My children wake up terrified. Is it too much to ask for a peaceful night’s sleep?” — a resident from NIBM Annexe told us quietly, her voice barely above a whisper.
If you’ve ever lived in Mohammadwadi, you know how the area used to be — quiet, green, and ideal for families. But over the past several months, something’s changed. And not for the better.

A Nightly Nightmare in Our Neighbourhood
Let me be clear: this isn’t just a “youthful mischief” situation. What we’re dealing with is a full-blown public safety issue, and it’s getting worse with each passing weekend.
Here’s what residents (including myself and close friends) are seeing every single night:
- Blistering-fast bike races on narrow residential lanes. Mostly from 11 PM to 3 AM.
- Modified bikes with illegal silencers that shake windows and nerves alike.
- Groups of 6-8 young men loitering around, screaming, fighting, and abusing each other.
- Women being harassed. Yes, catcalling is happening. In 2025. In our Pune.
- Litter, beer bottles, gutkha sachets left behind near society gates and playgrounds.
Why Mohammadwadi? Why Us?
As someone who walks these streets daily and speaks to people around, I can tell you the problem is bigger than just noise:
- Cloud 9 Road and NIBM Extension are pitch dark in places. It’s like walking into a blind spot.
- Police vans disappear after 11 PM. We’ve checked. Several nights.
- There are no real checks on late-night eateries or pan shops that act as “addas.”
All of this is turning our area into an unregulated zone where mischief becomes menace.
Here’s What We’re Asking For
And it’s not much, honestly. We’re not asking for VIP security or anything unrealistic. Just basic safety.
1. Night Patrolling (11 PM – 3 AM): We need to see police vans. Every night. No excuses.
2. Local Police Chowki: A beat post right here in NIBM-Mohammadwadi. Nothing sends a message like a stationed cop.
3. Crackdown on Modified Bikes: Confiscate the illegal ones. Penalise the riders. Let there be real consequences.
4. Active CCTV Use: What’s the point of cameras if no one checks the footage?
And What We Can Do As Residents
If you’re reading this and feel helpless, don’t. We still have a voice.
- Report incidents. Call 112. Save the Kondhwa Police Station number. Don’t let things slide.
- Record when safe. If you’re seeing this from your balcony, a video or photo can make all the difference.
- Form a delegation. Society heads, unite and meet the DCP. One voice isn’t enough, but 30 will be heard.
Waiting for a Response
We’ve reached out to Pune Police and are still awaiting an official reply. If and when they respond, we’ll update this story. Until then, share it. Talk about it. Tag them. Let them know we’re watching, and we’re done being silent.
This Isn’t Just Noise. It’s Fear.
I love my neighbourhood. Many of you reading this do too. That’s why this hurts.
This is not about convenience. It’s about dignity. About safety. About children who deserve sleep and women who deserve to walk without fear.
Let’s not wait until something irreversible happens. Let’s speak. Let’s act.
And let’s remind our city: every corner of Pune matters.
