Every day, thousands of us—students, workers, small business owners, daily wage earners, and families—pass through the Somatane toll naka. And every day, we’re paying not just in rupees, but in frustration. The kind of frustration that builds up quietly over time, and then suddenly bursts into a full-blown protest.
Starting July 22, we, the people of Maval, are coming together to say: enough is enough. This isn’t a political stunt. This is about basic fairness.

Why Are They Protesting?
Let me explain this like we’re having a cup of chai at the corner tapri.
You travel from Talegaon to Hinjawadi for work—a 20-25 km commute. But you still pay the same toll as someone driving from Pune to Mumbai. How is that fair?
This toll was supposed to be a temporary way to recover construction costs. But we all know it’s been running for years. Most people believe that cost was recovered long ago. So what are we paying for now?
And let’s talk about service. We’re not even getting our money’s worth. Potholes, poor lighting, no proper service roads—it feels like we’re being looted daily.
Who’s Behind This Movement?
This isn’t just one group or one political party. It’s a real people’s movement. The “All-Party Action Committee” has support from commuters, residents, local leaders, transport unions—everyone who’s fed up.
What Does ‘Non-Stop Protest’ Mean?
Simple: 24×7 protest at the toll plaza until the government listens. No big speeches, no drama. Just consistent presence. We’re tired of false promises. We want real change. And we’re staying put until it happens.
What Are They Hoping Will Happen?
Option one: The toll is shut down completely.
Option two: At the very least, give locals a fair deal. Maybe a low-cost monthly pass or an exemption for local vehicles.
Worst case? The protest drags on and authorities crack down. But even then, we won’t back down easily. This matters too much.
Why Should You Care?
Because this isn’t just about one toll plaza. It’s about standing up when something is clearly unfair. It’s about being heard when all other channels have failed.
So if you pass through Somatane, if you’re tired of paying for broken promises, or if you just believe in fair treatment—know this: we’re fighting for you too.
Let’s not just complain anymore. Let’s show up. Let’s stand together. July 22 onwards, it’s people power at Somatane. Join us.
